my very first mother’s day

this year has been pretty fantastic so far, and summer hasn’t even started. I know it’s been a while since I last updated you guys here on my blog and a lot has happened: my business model has shifted – expanded my creative boundaries – learning everyday on what #MOMLIFE is all about – and just enjoying what’s ahead of me.

this past month I celebrated my very first mother’s day.

Axel (aka Mookie) is the best sidekick and he made me A MOM. if you follow me on instagram, you can definitely see what a character he is. being a mom is honestly the best thing I’ve ever been (also, the hardest) and I wouldn’t change it for the world. it may sound very cliche, but it’s the truth. it was really exciting to be celebrated this past mother’s day and enjoy my family.

we hung out by the pool, bbq’d, played dominoes, drank wine and enjoyed plenty of laughs.

a big thanks to for sending me this amazing dress. I felt so beautiful, comfortable and soo happy to be wearing my old belt (which I hadn’t been able to wear since pre-pregnancy – score!) I paired it with sneakers, a leather wrap belt and some layered gold jewelry.

I wish I would’ve heard about this online shop while I was pregnant. They have some of the cutest Maternity clothing options and their prices are totally affordable, too! I also got this striped open shoulder mini dress to add to my summer wardrobe. It’s lightweight, airy and black and white (can’t go wrong with that).

a letter from ashley, the spin gal:

2016 was crazy and it was awesome. it was everything I wanted it to be.

What I sought out to do this year, became much more than I could ever imagine it to. I set specific goals for myself personally and for my business and I’m proud to say I kicked all those goals in the butt.

Spin Gallery x Wynwood was opened in January 2016 as a pop-up experiment intended on creating brand awareness, developing a lifestyle surrounding the Spin Gal and presenting new and creative social media + marketing techniques.

I created, The Spin Gal. But really, it was always you. I just pushed you to let go of your boundaries and get creative with your style with the clothing we offered at our shop. And to see how you made Spin Gallery yours was my favorite part of it all.

I was able to ride the crazy train for a year: surpass financial goals, become part of the growing community Wynwood, hire talented people (Becca, thank you!) and work with other creatives and I was absolutely blown away with what these relationships turned out to be. We created our own product, RE/Spin was born….and speaking of births, AXEL was born. In the midst of all of it and that itself, this past year has been an amazingly turbulent and fun whirlwind.

Spin Gallery, as it currently exists, will be changing. We won’t be focused on retail anymore.  Rather focusing on what my true passions are, lifestyle development and branding. Spin Gallery x Wynwood was a case study of sorts… always part of a larger picture. Spin has always been a venue to express myself creatively and I was able to make it a venue to put my passions of styling and marketing together.

This new Spin Gallery will be focused on working with other companies and brands to achieve their branding and lifestyle goals through creative consulting, curating new social media + marketing strategies as well as art direction, calligraphy and more.

I am really excited (and sad at the same time) to share this news with you all. a personal and enormous THANK YOU to all our customers and Spin Gals. WOW. The unending support and love you have shown us this past year has been unbelievable.

we already have a few partnerships lined up and in the works, which we will be sharing with you in the near future. we are really excited for this new venture and where it will take us next.

on that note, let’s get this party started.

Spin Gallery x Wynwood’s last day will be January 29th. Come stop by, give us a goodbye hug and leave with a cool outfit too.

how the hell am I doing all this? really, I have no idea.

i love what I do. there’s no doubt about it. it’s what keeps me going and always wanting to be moving forward. it also helps when those closest people around you are rooting for you and pushing you to give everything you’ve got. i hope one day i can show Axel everything we did for him and how his kicks to my ribs surprisingly got me through.

a lot of you guys come into the store and we joke how I’ll probably be at the shop until my water breaks…well, you joke. it seems pretty accurate and real to me.

if you didn’t know: my work life schedule entails running a store front, an online store, an etsy shop, all marketing plans and all visual content you see for Spin. Also, accounting. shipping. (the works) full time (i like to consider it, 25/8 instead of 24/7). and pregnant.

running a business is no easy task.
running a business pregnant is even harder.
but i do it. i love it. and i think i do it pretty damn well.

my days usually start with me literally rolling out of bed without falling and making my way to the kitchen for a good ‘ole hot brew. i really cant start my day without a cafe con leche. its either that cuban girl in me or the constant tossing and turning all night trying to find a comfy spot for my bump and I to rest that gives me the total urge for coffee in the morning.

side note: all this is before 7:30am

you can then find me glued to my laptop: reconciling online orders, running numbers, pulling inspiration and creating mood boards or buying the next wave of inventory for Spin Gallery. or I’m literally drawing out a map of whats in my head.

my work doesn’t stop there. i don’t think it ever stops really. not even on my “days off” when the shop is closed on mondays. i still find myself on the grind and creating a new project or concept for Spin. i’m not even kidding. i’ll tell myself monday mornings “ok, today….today, I’m going to stay home and relax.” Adrian´s days off are also mondays and as much as we want to stay in and relax, its not in us. We always find some project to take up our whole day. Redesigning the store, the website, planning the next campaign, creating a new good for the store or drawing inspiration for our next shoot. Our appetite is insatiable, both literally and work related.

and i forgot to mention that all this hard work, with the ever so quickly decreasing energy levels of my third trimester….i’ve had to do it in long sleeves, jeans and closed shoes with the *gorgeous* scent of mosquito repellant. why you ask? oh, because Zika.

enough excuses. you know what they say about excuses. this topic in itself deserves it’s own post – but i have been really hesitant to talk about it because it hits so close to home for me. it’s where I live and work (Spin Gallery is in Wynwood and we live on Miami Beach) and the effects of the scare tactics and over abundance of misleading and exaggerated news has really affected Wynwood…and my business. BUT, God has a bigger plan waiting for us on the other side and we’re pushing through. business is finally starting to pick back up again (slowly) and we’re finally starting to see some life walking through Wynwood.

once i’m at the shop, i can’t sit still. I’m merchandising. Working with Becca on what plans we have for the store this week. Putting together flat lays for instagram or running a MEGA iPhone photoshoot at the door with Elisa. now this, I’m super proud of. especially when girls come in asking who shoots our instagram and with what camera.

Hi, my name is Ashley. I’m an professional instagram photographer and I shoot all content for Spin Gallery’s social media….with my iPhone.

I’m actually really excited (also very nervous) to see how things play out with my work once Axel is here…so bare with me my people. i’ve got my solly baby wrapping skills underway so I can be back in the shop with him all snugged up and wrapped around me and continue growing Spin.

call me psycho, whatever. i think I’m a pretty awesome person doing pretty awesome things.

people are going to say i’m patting myself on the back. guess what, everyone should do that every once in a while. if you aren’t encouraging yourself, where are you going?

this is my story. share yours with us. we love to hear other peoples stories and support others as so many people support us.

maternity photos

i know i say this all the time, but I don’t like to do things the normal way. maternity pics in a park? no. maternity pics at the beach? no.

number 1: let’s be real. it’s the summer and I think the hottest summer ever. (but that could also be my hormones causing me to constantly overheat) no one wants to be all dressed up with their hair and makeup done…to sweat and look like a wet afghan hound in their photos.

number 2: the previous is my only rationalization for not taking traditional maternity pics.

so I opted insisted on taking these photos at home with the AC ON, my favorite spotify radio playing and just the comfort of knowing I was going to be comfortable.

but really,  I wanted to be able to document our home where we would begin to grow our family and create *more* beautiful memories in.

so last monday morning, our friend Karla came over. we kicked off our shoes, opened up the window blinds, made some cafecito and chatted about life before we got things started. Karla really made sure to create an even more comfortable and relaxed vibe for Adrian and I before shooting. It didn’t even feel like we were part of a shoot. We got to be ourselves, eat pizza in bed and just laugh at life.

…and she literally blew my mind with the shots she took. she exceeded my expectations and wants for these photos and I can’t wait to print them out! thank you again Karla, you’re amazing.

you can catch more shots on my instagram x karla’s instagram – i promise to post more photos of the nursery decor soon! (i know you guys want to see that)

July 22, 2016

Growing up, I always pictured my dream home filled with my dream family. Thanks to Pinterest, I have recreated this dream about 5 million times and it never gets old. But once I heard the news that I was expecting, my brain did this weird thing and kicked into what we like to call “nesting mode”. Now is my chance to build this dream home with my real life *growing* dream family.

With my busy schedule, its been so easy to put off finalizing the decor in our apartment and exchange that energy towards making the store look better or working on new concepts and ideas. But now, it’s like I can’t stop thinking about it. Little things like a cute entry way (where I can easily store all my hats), some new cushions for our couch and rug – thanks to Didi we’ve had to be on the hunt for a new one anyway. But what gets me most excited is Axel’s space.

We’ve got a one bedroom apartment, so trying to come up with a cool design within our bedroom has been quite a challenge. But i’m ready to take it on and create his perfect little space. Lucky for us, space isn’t an issue – so there’s a lot to play around with. The extra storage is a plus, too.

here are two inspiration boards i’ve put together this week before I start to head out and hunt.

Ashley Sixto_Nursery Inspo

I’ve been really interested in making this space a perfect cozy, neutral and minimal space for our little guy. Something that won’t be overcrowding our space, either. I’ve pinned and pinned and i feel comfortable enough to finally begin the process of hunting down all the items we want (all while keeping within a budget).

main inspiration piece is the painting behind Didi in the photo. it’s an original work by Adrian’s late great uncle. we’re a huge fan of his work and actually have several pieces hanging all around the apartment.

we’ll be DIY’ing a few things like painting our current dresser set to match the art piece. we’ll probably be going with this color by BEHR “green trellis” and adding a few gold drawer pulls. i’m also currently working on a copper + cotton thread macrame piece to hang on the wall behind the crib. we also have a few wood slabs laying around the house – so we will add those to the wall above the dresser for additional decor and storage space.

dresser: ikea (no longer available) // crib: ikea (under $100!) // drawer pulls: martha stewart via home depot // pom pom blanket via Etsy // striped crib sheet: burt’s bees via buy buy baby // baby changer pad for above dresser: keekaroo peanut changer (natural to match the color scheme)

Ashley Sixto_Living Room Inspo

we’ve already got the couch, chair and ottoman. all that’s really left to make our living room “complete” is a new rug + entry way stylized. I currently have a make shift table at the entryway – but I’m looking to change it up for a bench like the one in the photo.

i feel like adding a bit of blue and green into the neutral mix of what we have will already set a premise for a calming and relaxing vibe. just exactly what we need after a long day of work!

bench: ikea // rug: rugs usa (on super, super sale!) // pillows: still on the hunt, but really looking for a some african mud cloth ones. etsy might be my best bet!
