Style Challenge: Day Two

Today’s look: Semi-Casual.

Same basics, different style.

Add ons: Michael Kors Purse, Karen Walker Sunglasses, Forever 21 B/W Trench, Christian Siriano for Payless Wedges (on Sale!), Michael Kors Watch, Varied Bracelets.

I just bought this trench from Forever 21 the other day, and I must say I’m in lurrrrrve. It’s very light and versatile. In sunny weather you can throw it over a patterned dress like this one from Wallis or go crazy and wear it solo as a dress tied at the waist with a belt. Or of course, you can always wear it “normally” on a gloomy day like today. Meh. Rainy weather, there’s something about you. I love you when I can stay in bed watching movies all day. But not when I have to head to class to finish projects early in the AM.

Who’s with me on this love/hate relationship? I’m sure I have a few takers.

Style Challenge: Day One

Every now and then I challenge my wardrobe basics to create a few different looks. This week, I wanted to put together a casual, semi-casual, and an “I’m ready for a fun night out” look using the same basic pieces. It’s always cool to see how much you can maximize what you’ve got in your closet without having to go out and buy a whole new outfit. (I guess that’s the frugalista in me.)

Today’s look: Casual

Basics: Black Tee – Express & Coral Pants – H&M (similar in Seafoam)
Add ons: Old Navy Flats, Michael Kors Bag c/o the boyfriend, Karen Walker Sunnies, Michael Kors Watch, Varied bracelets, H&M gold hair tie.

This was such a fun project for Janelle (my photog and great friend) & I….Mainly because we got to spend some time at the county fair before it ended over the weekend. We couldn’t let it pass by without grabbing some Dippin’ Dots ice cream and take in all the different smells from the elephant ears and funnel cakes…mmmmm. YUM. Stay tuned for what’s next in the challenge.

p.s. Thanks Scar for helping out too!

Breaking the Rules.

top: H&M. jeans: H&M. shoes: Urban Outfitters c/o my beautiful friend Andrea. sunglasses: Karen Walker. accessories: Michael Kors watch, Forever 21 cuff.

In honor of the beginning of Spring, I decided to break the “rules” of the don’t wear white after Labor Day. Yeah, whatever. I live in Miami and the weather here is always tropical, so it’s hard to stop yourself from not wanting to wear your whites. It’s crisp, clean (unless you have the same tendency that I do to somehow dirty yourself), and fun because you have so much opportunity to give the outfit some personality. Like I did here, with these adorable snake loafers. If it’s not the shoes, it’s the accessories too. Check out 3 other ways I would pair the all white look with:

white top & pants

Look #1
ASOS Sunglasses
Steven by Steve Madden Crossbody Bag (This is my “steal” version of the Cambridge Satchel)
ASOS Floral Print Loafers

Look #2
ASOS Croc Laptop Case (Twofer: I would so use this as a clutch too!)
Nine West Heels

Look #3
MAC Lipstick
Jessica Simpson Wedges

Go ahead, give it a try. Break the rules & embrace it!

Spring Break Essentials

It’s right about that time…Spring Break. (Well, for most of us.) The time where all your friends are in town together, you’re going to be by some body of water (whether it be the beach, pool, or you’re on a boat), and you’re ready to have a good time. I’ve put together two outfits that I find the perfect fit for the occasion. I’ve incorporated the biggest trends for this season with a little bit of that Ashley flair. I chose pieces that you can always mix and match and can the idea of making them “cover ups” and put it together as an outfit to go out for a later time.

Look #1: I’m an advocate of taking care of my face when in the sun, so I’m always collecting cool hats that will help me cover up but look great. I love the pop of color this fedora adds to the outfit. Fuchsia is a big color this Spring! This look is completed with color blocking accessories that will make you stand out. (and we all know that’s the important part.)

hat: Target. necklace: Mod Cloth. sandals: Sam Edelman. sunglasses: ASOS. cover up: Topshop. watch: Nixon. bikini: Tara Matthews via The Outnet.

Look #2: Since the weather during this time is getting hotter, but not excruciating like the Summer, you can get away with covering up your tunic with a chambray button down rolled at the sleeves and unbuttoned for that “jean jacket” look.  Put it together with a printed tunic over a bright bikini and some neutral accessories and you are good to go!

2 Outfits. 1 Jumpsuit.

Basics: Leopard Jumpsuit, Forever 21 (Similar). Strappy Platforms, Jessica Simpson.

Outfit #1: Vest, Express. Clutch, Thrifted (last seen here).
This outfit is perfect for brunch/lunch, shopping, or an outdoor event during the day. I topped the jumpsuit with a classic long fitted vest and tied it together with the belt that comes with the jumpsuit. Kept it sweet and simple for a day time look with the woven clutch.

Outfit #2: Crop Top, Bebe (similar). Necklace, Express. Clutch, Marc Jacobs.
After your daytime activities, you’ve made plans to go out at night. But, you really don’t know what to wear. I’ve got an idea. Keep the jumpsuit on and add a crop top to give the illusion that you’re wearing high-waisted pants. With a touch of punk, a statement necklace makes the outfit complete.

Why should a jumpsuit be limited to be worn as a “jumpsuit”? I’m one to maximize the use of anything I buy. Clearly, you can see that here. So why not have fun with it?!
